The Catalinbread Cold One Fuzz Glitch Distortion Pedal takes inspiration from the cult-classic DOD Punkifier and expands the idea into a much more flexible dirt box. You get separate distortion and fuzz circuits that can be blended together, plus a Glitch control that transforms the fuzz side from conventional fuzz into a broken, arpeggiating texture. That gives you three distinct gain flavors to work with, distortion, fuzz, and glitch fuzz, and the controls let you isolate them or layer them together. If you're looking for one pedal that can move from straightforward drive into nasty fuzz and genuinely unstable sounds, the Cold One covers a lot of ground.
Gain controls only the distortion side, and at lower settings that circuit can function almost like a clean path. That makes the Fuzz Blend particularly useful with bass, where you can retain definition while mixing fuzz back into the signal. Glitch determines the balance between standard fuzz and glitch fuzz before that combined sound reaches the Fuzz Blend control. Tone is active rather than a conventional passive tone control, emphasizing either low or high frequencies instead of simply rolling frequencies away. Input and output buffers also allow the Cold One to sit comfortably in different positions within your signal chain.
The Cold One can run from 9V to 18V and draws only 4mA, so powering it on an existing board is straightforward. We like how the blending architecture makes the stranger side of this pedal practical.
