Description
The JHS 3 Series PHERB Phaser and Reverb Pedal combines a deliberately dark, lo-fi reverb with a four-stage vintage-style phaser, giving experimental, shoegaze, ambient, industrial, and noise players a modulation and space effect that behaves more like one complete sound than two separate pedals. The signal runs through reverb and then phaser, with both effects normally active together. JHS tuned the phaser's notch sweeps higher in the frequency range so its movement doesn't overwhelm the reverb's low mids, while the 0.05 Hz to 5 Hz Speed range takes you from extremely slow movement to pronounced swirling modulation.
Mix controls the amount of reverb and phaser, Speed sets the phaser rate, and Length adjusts both reverb decay and pre-delay, with decay ranging from 241 ms all the way to 49.83 seconds. Turn Speed fully counterclockwise in normal mode and the phaser drops out, giving you the reverb on its own. Flip the BREAK toggle up and things get considerably rougher; an asymmetric bitcrusher with analog-style clipping processes your incoming guitar before it reaches the reverb and phaser, creating distorted, broken textures that can move from aggressive fuzz-like sounds to long, degraded ambient washes.
PHERB works especially well near the end of a pedalboard where you'd normally place reverb, but its unusual signal path leaves plenty of room for experimentation. There isn't a blend between the two effects or an order switch, which keeps the concept focused and the controls quick to navigate. We like this one for players who aren't looking for another conventional reverb or phaser; it's built for creating textures that move, smear, pulse, and occasionally fall apart in useful ways.
