The Taylor Custom Legacy K10 LTD takes the familiar Dreadnought in a less conventional direction, combining premium tonewoods with altered proportions and a reworked version of Taylor's X-bracing. Part of the first limited-edition koa models to join Taylor's Legacy Collection, the K10 LTD pairs figured Hawaiian koa back and sides with a premium Engelmann spruce top. Production is limited to just 52 guitars in recognition of Taylor's 52nd year, and each receives a Legacy back label hand-signed by co-founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.
The body begins with A-grade figured Hawaiian koa selected for rich natural variation, paired with a premium Engelmann spruce soundboard. Rather than using standard Dreadnought dimensions, Taylor gives the K10 LTD a deeper, tapered body that measures 1/8" deeper at both the heel and tail. Inside, Flat Scalloped Open X-Bracing allows greater movement through the lower bout. Taylor describes the resulting voice as having strong midrange character and koa's distinctive top-end sparkle, with the more open bracing and deeper body contributing additional warmth and low-end depth.
The playing feel departs from a conventional long-scale Dreadnought as well. Its A-grade mahogany Taylor NT neck uses a short 24 7/8" scale length, creating a more relaxed feel under the fingers. The polished Crelicam ebony fingerboard is paired with a 1 3/4" white TUSQ nut, while Artist inlays in mother-of-pearl and green abalone provide an elegant visual counterpoint. For players who appreciate Dreadnought authority but prefer a shorter scale and a somewhat more accommodating feel, this configuration gives the K10 LTD a personality all its own.
Taylor gives the Custom Legacy K10 LTD an appropriately refined presentation without distracting from its tonewoods. Crelicam ebony binding surrounds the body, fingerboard, heel cap, and soundhole. The rosette combines Honduran rosewood and paua abalone, while black and maple purfling adds definition around the top, back, sides, and rosette. The body receives a gloss finish while the mahogany neck remains satin. Gotoh 510 Antique Gold tuning machines with ebony buttons complete the hardware package and complement the natural koa without overwhelming it.
Unlike the K65e LTD, the Custom Legacy K10 LTD is a purely acoustic instrument with no onboard electronics. That keeps the focus squarely on its unusual combination of premium Engelmann spruce, figured Hawaiian koa, deeper tapered Dreadnought body, short scale, and open scalloped X-bracing. D'Addario XS Coated Phosphor Bronze Light strings are fitted from the factory, and a brown Taylor Deluxe Hardshell Case is included.
At Cream City Music, we think the Custom Legacy K10 LTD stands out because Taylor has changed several meaningful parts of the traditional Dreadnought recipe rather than relying on premium woods alone. The deeper tapered body, 24 7/8" scale, Engelmann spruce top, figured koa back and sides, and more open scalloped bracing all contribute to its distinctive identity. Add the ebony appointments, Artist inlays, antique gold Gotoh tuners, and exceptionally limited run of 52 guitars, and this is a thoughtfully conceived Legacy model for the player or collector looking for something well outside Taylor's standard production lineup.
