The EVH 5150 Series Deluxe Baked Maple in Black is built for players who want a fast, aggressive guitar that feels ready for high-gain work right out of the case. If you are into tight rhythm tones, fluid leads, and a platform that encourages expressive playing, the 5150 design delivers. The modified Strat-style body keeps things comfortable while the hockey stick headstock and simple control layout give it that unmistakable EVH attitude.
The basswood body is paired with a graphite-reinforced bolt-on quartersawn baked maple neck carved to EVH's modified C backshape. The hand-rubbed satin finish on the neck makes it feel quick and broken-in, while the 12 to 16 inch compound radius baked maple fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets keeps chording easy and lead playing smooth up the neck. Direct-mount EVH Wolfgang Alnico 2 humbuckers provide thick rhythm tones with clear articulation and strong sustain. A three-position toggle keeps switching simple, and a dedicated kill switch on the lower bout opens the door for stutter effects and rhythmic tricks.
A top-mount EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo paired with a Floyd Rose R3 locking nut keeps tuning stable even with aggressive tremolo use. The EVH D-Tuna allows you to switch instantly between standard and Drop-D tuning. A low friction volume pot with treble bleed makes swells smooth, while the high friction tone pot stays where you set it. We like this model because it feels purpose-built for high energy rock playing and stays dependable under heavy use.
