Description
The Vox VTB-1 Treble Booster Overdrive Pedal takes the classic British treble booster concept and makes it much easier to live with on a modern pedalboard. It's especially well suited to players using a Vox AC30, AC15, or another amp that responds well to being pushed at the input. The inspiration comes directly from the treble booster sounds associated with players like Rory Gallagher, Brian May, and Marc Bolan, but Vox uses a carefully biased silicon circuit to capture that vintage response without the temperature sensitivity and inconsistency commonly associated with old germanium designs.
At the center of the VTB-1 is a hand-selected silver can BC109 silicon transistor in a single-transistor gain stage. Vox specifically tuned its biasing to create a wider edge-of-breakup range, giving you the smooth onset of drive and guitar-volume cleanup that make this style of booster so interactive. Turn your guitar down and the sound cleans up; bring the volume back up and the VTB-1 pushes the front of your amp harder for more presence, harmonics, and overdrive. The Fat switch broadens the boosted frequency range when the traditional treble-focused response is too lean for your guitar or amp.
This is still a deliberately simple booster, but the modernized circuit makes it considerably more practical for regular pedalboard use. Thin-film resistors help keep noise down, the compact enclosure is built for stage use, and you can power it from a standard 9V center-negative supply or a 9V battery. We like the VTB-1 for players who want that old-school treble booster interaction with their amp, but don't want the quirks of maintaining an original vintage circuit.
